Dutch artists of the Golden Age increasingly turned their skill for detailed observation to portraying their country and its people. Some, such as Steen and Ter Borch, specialized in scenes of everyday life, while others, such as Ruisdael, Hobbema, and Cuyp, sought to capture the look and feel of the land.
